Sooner Thought accepts submissions from all writers–professional or amateur. Unfortunately, we are able to publish only those submissions that fit the mission of Sooner Thought and space considerations.

Before sending your article, please familiarize yourself with the type of stories we publish. If you feel your submission would suit our editorial philosophy, please consider the following:

  • Tell us a story we haven’t heard from the mainstream press!
  • Give us a fresh perspective–not the one we hear every day on the news.
  • Please send final drafts of your article, essay or story–we will not edit poorly-written or misspelled pieces– such submissions will generally not be published. We reserve the right to edit pieces for length and clarity, however. Pieces should be kept to no longer than 2000 words, unless it is an article that can easily be broken up into a series of articles.
  • We can not pay for submissions at this time. It is understood that your submission is offered free to this site with no consideration of financial remuneration.
  • We will publish stories that already have appeared in other publications as long as the author currently holds the rights to the story, or it fits the standards of Fair Use:

We are making such material available in our efforts to advance understanding of criminal justice, political, human rights, economic, democracy, scientific, and social justice issues, etc. We believe this constitutes a ‘fair use’ of any such copyrighted material as provided for in section 107 of the US Copyright Law.
